Creative freedom and self-expression were on display over the course of five days in June as the second annual Cayman Art Week unfolded throughout the Cayman Islands. Kicking off with a VIP collectors’ reception at Agua Restaurant & Lounge in Camana Bay and followed by a series of high-profile events across all three Cayman islands, this vibrant – and free – series of events united a community of artists, collectors and art lovers in a celebration of art in all its forms.
Sponsored by Provenance Properties Cayman Islands, Cayman Art Week 2022 lived up to its highly successful launch in 2021, surpassing it with strong attendance and an increase in venues and artist participation. With nearly 40 venues and more than 50 events, including a workshop for teens, the work of local talent was showcased at galleries, studios and a variety of pop-up locations never before seen in Cayman.
After the Camana Bay launch — which included an Open Canvas Night at KARoo and two-week-long gallery exhibits in the Town Centre — Cayman Art Week journeyed through the Seven Mile Beach corridor, with exhibits held at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman and Ms. Piper’s Kitchen + Garden among the many venues.
Throughout the course of the week, the works of Cayman’s established artists and emerging talent impressed collectors and event goers with a wide range of media that included sculptures, paintings, sketches, installations, live performances and much more.
Friday night welcomed people to central George Town for "Art in the City," a tour of galleries and studios followed by an energetic party attended by hundreds of people.
Led and organised by volunteers, Cayman Art Week wrapped up on a high note at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, with a promise to the art world that this annual expression of creativity is here to stay.
