Imagine living in a luxurious condominium on Grand Cayman’s world-renowned Seven Mile Beach, with access to excellent dining experiences that are just seconds from your doorstep. Couple that with soft, fresh breezes and the sound of waves crashing on the shore, and you find yourself at the recently launched dining experience offered by Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa’s world-class culinary team, Island Fest.
This delicious evening is offered weekly through July (it will then take a short break, returning in the winter) and provides the amazing experience of seaside dining combined with exquisite food and authentic Caribbean entertainment. The event is held every Monday at the newly renovated Beach Deck at Seafire. It begins at 6 p.m., which gives you plenty of time to relax and watch the horizon set ablaze with hues of yellow, pink and purple while indulging in a special selection of cocktails specifically made for the event.
The idea behind the experience, explained by Kimpton Seafire’s Executive Chef Massimo de Francesca, is “to highlight the diversity of the wonderful cuisines ranging throughout the Caribbean.” You will find a number of food stations set up on the beach, allowing you to sink your feet in the cool sand while browsing the different culinary offerings. On one side is jerk chicken, an unmistakable dish originating from the island of Jamaica. Proceeding to the next station, you will find Cuban-spiced strip loin, Cayman’s own Cayman-style fish and even a raw bar with an assortment of fresh ceviche.
For those with a sweet tooth, you will find an irresistible mix of desserts ranging from traditional cassava cake to banoffee pie, a more recent international creation. For those more interested in cocktails with a Caribbean twist, try the “Paw Paw Mojito,” a beverage made with papaya, or the “Cayman Passion,” which is a twist on the popular Cayman Lemonade cocktail infused with passionfruit and hibiscus tea.
The Island Fest doesn’t just serve up these delicious culinary offerings though. A local band is also on hand to ensure guests are entertained with beats of the Caribbean, and a fire-dancing show offers a little more thrill. If you are looking to relax after your feast instead of dancing the night away, then why not take a seat around the small bonfire that’s set up on the beach? There is something for everyone at this fun and casual affair.
